Hi, I'm Alyssa, founder of Wild Roots Forest Friends. For over 15 years I've worked in early childhood care, supporting children and families in a variety of settings. Through these experiences-and as a mom of two- I've learned that one of the greatest gifts we can give children is time outdoors.
Nature is more than a place to play, its a foundation for healthy growth. Research shows that children today spend less time outdoors than any previous generation, often averaging less than 20 minutes a day! Studies link outdoor play to improved mental health, stronger immune systems, better focus, and increased creativity-benefits that can last a lifetime.
Why Wild Roots?
Wild Roots was created to give kids the opportunity to slow down, explore, and connect with the natural world in meaningful ways. Through unstructured outdoor play and hands-on experiences, children can grow in ways that a traditional classroom can't always provide.
I'm thrilled to share this vision with families in this community and create experiences that spark curiosity, encourage growth, and foster a deep love for nature.
What We Offer
Our program includes nature-based classes for children of all ages, from gentle sensory play for the youngest explorers to independent outdoor adventures for older kids. We provide caregiver-and-me classes, drop-off exploration groups, and hiking clubs, all designed to foster curiosity, confidence, and a deep connection with nature.
Every session is rooted in play, movement, and season changes, encouraging children to build a lasting relationship with the outdoors.
